Zane Kilian, facing charges alongside alleged underworld boss Nafiz Modack, denies using cellphone tracking technology to locate slain top cop Charl Kinnear on the day of his murder.

CAPE TOWN - Zane Kilian, co-accused of alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack, has vehemently denied any involvement in pinging slain top cop Charl Kinnear on the day of his murder. Kilian, standing trial alongside Modack and 13 other individuals, faces a staggering 122 charges encompassing a wide range of criminal activities, including the murder of Kinnear.

Kinnear, who was deeply immersed in investigating Modack at the time, was tragically shot dead outside his Bishop Lavis home in September 2020.During his testimony in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday, a visibly emotional Kilian broke down in tears, pleading with the court that his sole desire was to provide for his family. Kilian is accused of acting as an accomplice to Modack, leveraging his access to sophisticated cellphone tracking technology to pinpoint the locations of specific targets. The State's evidence paints a damning picture, alleging that Kilian pinged Kinnear's phone over 600 times on the day of his murder. However, Kilian vehemently refutes these allegations, asserting to Judge Robert Henney that he had exhausted his available pings prior to that fateful day, making it impossible for him to have pinged Kinnear. Moreover, Kilian claims that Bradley Goldblatt, a former police officer who granted him access to the pinging platform, also possessed access to his profile on the tracking application, potentially implicating Goldblatt in the alleged stalking of Kinnear
