The catenary — the overhead wires that supply power to trains — is damaged between Lees and uOttawa stations, forcing Rideau Transit Maintenance to install new wires using special equipment that arrived in Ottawa on Monday.The storm-related damage is one of two LRT issues the city has been juggling this week.
According to the city, 20 LRT vehicles with more than 175,000 kilometres of services were pulled from operations so Alstom could replace the axle hubs “as a precautionary measure.”Article content“Alstom has brought in additional engineering experts from Europe to assist with the enhanced inspections and to help determine the root cause on the affected vehicle,” OC Transpo GM Renée Amilcar said in a memo to council and transit commissioners.
The city has said the wheel problem is different from the one that led to a derailment in August 2021.
