Choppies, Mphoko dispute finally heads to court
A dispute over the payment of $22.6 million to a former Zimbabwean politician and his son will finally go to court in that country after many failed attempts by the Botswana-based multinational grocery chain, Choppies Enterprises, to avoid answering questions in court.
Choppies Enterprises has been applying for exceptions – an excuse not to go to trial – since 2019, when former second vice-president Phelekezela Mphoko and his son, Siqokoqela, filed papers of demand to be paid the true value of their 51% shareholding in the company’s 32 stores in Zimbabwe.Subscribe to News24 for just R75 per month to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
