Chatsworth community say a dumping site compromises their health
Residents of Chatsworth, south of Durban, believe their rights are being violated as they say excessive dumping in the area is negatively affecting their health.The dumpsite on Sunset Avenue, adjacent to Florence Nightingale Drive, has seen thousands of refuse bags being dumped outside the site by residents.Resident, Steven Naidoo, says, “We having numerous sicknesses with all this dumping out of this place here.
So, I believe if the government was so concerned about our health, where our human rights today? They could have catered for our human rights because we are getting sick. We have no money. We cannot even go to a doctor. We have to wait the whole day in RK Khans Hospital just to get checked. The stench is very bad there and we get rats running around and we have cockroaches running into our houses.
