The second round at the 105th PGA Championship began with plenty of maple leafs on the leaderboard.

If there is a Canadian in the mix come Sunday, expect to see plenty of Canadian flags along the ropes at Oak Hill.

“There’s so much support, tons of Canadians here, with the border being so close,” Pendrith said after his second round on Friday. “My parents are here. My wife is here. Wife’s parents, brother and sister-in-law, and some friends are here as well.” With his powerful game off the tee, Pendrith seems custom built for the stern test provided at Oak Hill, a long, tree-lined parkland course with deep rough. The only trouble is that his famous driving game has fallen off this season, dropping from 12th to 49th in strokes-gained-off-the-tee. His driving distance numbers are down nearly 10 yards as well, from 316 yards to 307 yards, and his accuracy has fallen all the way to 179th.

Pendrith managed to get around Oak Hill’s fast and heavily sloped greens with just 26 putts, making an amazing 119 feet of putts in his round. For reference, the PGA Tour average in 2019-20 was 72.8 feet. As for the other Canadians, Hadwin found trouble at the difficult 500-yard par-4 sixth hole in his second round, making a double bogey en route to a Friday three-over 73. The Abbotsford, B.C. native heads to the weekend at three-over par.Nick Taylor, also from Abbotsford, found disaster at that same sixth hole making a triple bogey and shooting a six-over 76 to finish at seven-over, outside the the five-over cut line.
