Bruce Campbell has a sweet memory of having met and worked with Tobey Maguire during Sam Raimi's SpiderMan trilogy. 'I love Tobey Maguire. I showed up in the first one, he goes, 'Oh, you're a friend of Sam's? Hi! How are you?''
Bruce Campbell sweetly recalls meeting Tobey Maguire on his Spider-Man trilogy, with the young star excited to meet the cult favorite actor. The Evil Dead vet cameoed in all three of Sam Raimi's superhero movies as the wrestling announcer who gives Peter Parker his superhero name, a stiff theater attendant who keeps Parker from entering Mary Jane's show after its begun and the maître d' at the French restaurant where Parker plans to propose to MJ.
Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy is widely regarded as helping revitalize the superhero movie genre alongside the Wesley Snipes-led Blade trilogy and Fox's X-Men franchise.
"I love Tobey Maguire. I showed up in the first one, he goes, 'Oh, you're a friend of Sam's? Hi! How are you?' The second one, he goes, 'Are you back?!' The third one, he walks on set, 'I guess we can't make a Spider-Man without Bruce Campbell!' I'm like, 'You're starting to get the idea, punk!'" Though he had starred in a number of projects prior, Spider-Man marked one of Maguire's biggest undertakings in his career after more independent and modestly budgeted films such as Ang Lee's The Ice Storm, Pleasantville and The Cider House Rules.
Despite the rocky reception to the Spider-Man trilogy capper and a nearly 15-year gap, audiences were recently overjoyed with Maguire's return for Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside fellow former webslinger Andrew Garfield.
