UK residents are being advised to freeze milk, meat and poultry in preparation for the thunder and lightning storms predicted to hit various parts of the country. Despite enjoying a week of glorious sunshine, the Met Office has warned that the hot weather will dramatically end this week as thunder and lightning storms take over.
While some areas have already experienced these storms, others are yet to feel their impact under the yellow weather warning issued by the weather forecaster. British Gas has provided a range of advice for households preparing for severe storms, reports the Express. The energy company suggests that since storms can sometimes lead to power cuts, it's wise to prepare accordingly. One such precaution is freezing milk, spare meat and poultry.
British Gas stated: "Buy appliance thermometers for both your fridge and freezer to check that they stay safe during a power cut (-18C for freezers and 4C for fridges.""Freeze leftovers like milk, meat and poultry. If you find yourself without power they'll last longer." The company also recommended using 'power surge plugs' to protect valuable appliances such as TVs, games consoles and PCs, adding: "Power surge plugs are great for valuable electrical appliances. They're relatively inexpensive and you can find them at most electrical retailers.""Make sure any home medical equipment has a battery back-up."
