British Gas has revealed plans to recruit 300 new apprentices in roles that could see them earning up to £32,000 once fully qualified. The majority of these positions will be in engineering.
In an effort to close the gender gap in engineering and attract individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, British Gas is actively encouraging more women to apply for these roles. Additionally, the energy titan announced the launch of a customer service apprenticeship, with new recruits expected to start the scheme in August and September this year.
Industry groups have indicated that apprentice salaries will start at £14,000, rising to £17,000 after 19 weeks and £20,000 after 27 weeks. Once fully qualified and working full time, it is anticipated that salaries could reach £28,000. The firm is also committed to supporting ex-military personnel and former Team GB athletes through its Pathway programmes, aiming to recruit at least 500 veterans by 2026 and offering apprenticeships as a new career path. Centrica's CEO, Chris O'Shea, remarked: "Education and employment are critical to raising standards of living.
