The day started with pitches to the politically important association for rural municipalities and small cities. First up was Joe Ceci, the NDP’s Municipal Affairs critic, followed by Smith.Article content

“It is still in crisis,” he said. “The premier will come up here later this morning and claim it is not.He focused on the shortage of family physicians. “We know there is not a single doctor currently accepting new patients in central Alberta or the Bow Valley,” Ceci said.Instead, she focused on UCP action in health care, repeating claims of success in improving ER and ambulance wait times, shortening surgery lists, and recruiting doctors and nurses.

Ceci also attacked UCP moves toward a provincial police force. “This is wrong,” he said. “It’s a bad idea. It’s a political game run amok.” She stayed mainly with key rural issues such as roads, schools, school busing and especially the UCP’s new plan for forcing oil companies to pay back municipal taxes.
