The Indians prevailed, 2-0 to advance. 10/27/2022Senior Tyler Chiu helped two-seed Old Tappan avoid an early-round exit by scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Golden Knights to a 1-0 victory over 15-seed Bergenfield during the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 Tournament in Old Tappan.
After no goals were scored during regulation, the game was sent into overtime where Chiu was able to find the back of the net during the first overtime period to send the Golden Knight into the quarterfinals.Old Tappan will host Morris Knolls in the quarterfinals.Three-seed Mount Olive outdueled 14-seed Montville in penalty kicks, 6-5, to advance to the quarterfinals of the sectional tournament in Flanders.
Both teams scored a goal in the second half to send the game into overtime tied at 1-1. The game was forced to be decided on penalty kicks after each team failed to score a goal during both overtime periods.Northern Highlands 1, Morris Hills 0 Junior Cooper Brodie sparked nine-seed North Highlands to a 1-0 victory over eight-seed Morris Hills during the first round of the sectional tournament in Rockaway.
Brodie scored the game’s lone goal in the second half off an assist from Rishabh Tolani to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals for the Highlanders.Marc Putrino had eight saves in the shutout.
