After rescuing a chameleon from illegal sale, Boksburg SPCA urges the community to report any sightings of illicit wildlife trading. The rescued chameleon was sent for rehabilitation before being released back into the wild.
Recently, Boksburg SPCA rescued a chameleon that was being sold on the roadside and now encourages the community to report any illegal wildlife trading. On November 28, the SPCA responded to a complaint about the sale of a chameleon on North Rand Road. A field officer found the seller with the animal in a plastic jar. The chameleon was confiscated and taken to the Boksburg SPCA, where the seller was educated on the illegality of selling wild animals and the potential consequences.
The rescued chameleon was then sent to the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Clinic for assessment and rehabilitation before being released back into its natural habitat. The SPCA urges the public to report any illegal wildlife trade rather than supporting it, as buying these animals encourages continued illegal trading and is both cruel and illegal
