Danè Rudolph, a nine-year-old runner from Benoni Northerns Athletic Club, prioritized helping a fallen teammate over her own race ambitions during the CGA sub-youth track and field champs, showcasing exceptional sportsmanship despite missing the ASA age-group championships.
Benoni Northerns Athletic Club junior runner Danè Rudolph set aside her own hopes of qualifying for the ASA age-group track and field championships to help a fellow competitor.
However, this resulted in the youngster losing ground and, ultimately, ended her bid to qualify for the nationals in Bloemfontein on December 7. A learner at Laerskool Concordia, Danè started the season with sixth overall in 2:07.95 in the second league meeting in October and clocked a season’s best 02:05.12 for third overall, in the last league on November 9.
