The Springbok Sevens side cruised into the semifinals of the Perth SVNS tournament on Saturday, demolishing Sevens powerhouses Fiji 19-0 in a commanding quarterfinal victory. Fiji , who had endured a challenging start in Perth, suffering a loss to Uruguay on day one, were simply outclassed by the Blitzboks , who dominated from the opening whistle to the final buzzer. The Blitzboks now face hosts Australia, whom they defeated on day one, in the semifinals.
Should they progress, they will then take on the winner of the Spain versus Argentina clash in the final.The match began brightly for the Blitzboks with a break from Zain Davids. Selvyn Davids and Ronald Brown orchestrated a series of impressive attacking moves, culminating in Davids finding Shilton van Wyk with a perfect pass to score the opening try. Selvyn then ignited the crowd with a stunning effort from the restart. Receiving the ball on the edge with two Fijians closing in, he expertly toed the ball forward and somehow managed to squeeze underneath his opponents to touch down, securing the second try.Van Wyk went on to score a second try, but it was disallowed. However, the Blitzboks had the final word when Selvyn won a penalty. He quickly tapped it and delivered a pinpoint pass to Quewin Nortje, who was illegally tackled by retreating Fijian player Iowane Teba as he was about to score. The referee immediately awarded a yellow card to Teba and a penalty try, effectively sealing the victory for the Blitzboks. The Blitzboks maintained complete control in the closing stages of the match, preventing Fiji from registering any points and setting themselves up for a potentially triumphant final day on Sunday in Perth
