Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is set to approve the land plans
Blackburn town hall bosses are proposing to transfer a parcel of land to a social housing provider to that a new children’s hub can be built in the middle of a 1950’s former council estate. The move will allow the Together Housing Group to claim an £800,000 grant to develop the youth centre in Shadsworth.
The grant also includes £3.3m to double the size of Darwen Youth Centre in Knott Street, £2.9m to provide Blackburn Youth Zone with a brand new employment and skills hub in the unused neighbouring Fuse Box building and £1m to transform Audley and Queen’s Park Children’s Centre into a seven days-a-week youth hub.The scheme is part of a £20m makeover of the Shadsworth Estate in South-East Blackburn by Together Housing.
“The project is supported by the council and the location of the new building will be in a central area close to the existing Shadsworth Hub, local play area and open space. A condition of the YIF grant is that the land ownership should be in the name of the grant receiving organisation.
