German officials will include safeguards to protect roughly R131 billion in funding from COP countries meant to kickstart South Africa's shift away from the use of environmentally harmful coal to generate electricity.
"We will ensure that safeguards are built into the process to ensure that the funding, once it is released, reaches it intended destination," Andreas Peschke, German ambassador to South Africa told reporters in Pretoria on Thursday. Peschke said they were anxious to see progress with tangible energy projects.
