Roué said that, in Ottawa, both the outgoing and incoming city councils wanted inclusionary zoning laws, but “all of that is going to be thrown out the window by diktat” from the province. ACORN argues cities with rental replacement bylaws, which protect tenants if landlords want to demolish the building or convert them to condominiums, will no longer have those bylaws in place should Bill 23 pass.Article contentStaff at Clark’s ministry said local constituency workers had opted to work from home “out of an abundance of caution” after being told about the protest.Clark is also MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.
“Nothing in the proposed legislation would change or undermine Ontario’s stringent protections for tenants as laid out in the Residential Tenancies Act. Tenants and landlords will retain all existing rights and obligations pertaining to renovations, right to return, compensation and offences under the RTA.”
