Mauldin played in all 18 games for the Redblacks and had a league-leading 17 sacks. The 30-year-old also made 43 tackles and forced two fumble. “This is just the beginning,” said Mauldin. “I didn’t get this on my own. It felt good to be able to win this award for the guys and the Redblacks organization.”

Following in the footsteps of recent winners like Adam Bighill, Willie Jefferson, Alex Singleton and Solomon Elimimian is a big deal for Mauldin.Mauldin also gave plenty of praise to Redblacks defensive co-ordinator Mike Benevides. “Working with him is unreal,” said Muldin. “I thank him to this day. His scheme is what got me to where I am.”
