A report by the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services has helped Police Minister Bheki Cele move one step closer to receiving approval for the South African Police Service to intercept communication and purchase other intelligence equipment.

According to Cele, the police want to use the equipment and technology in the interest of the public, to combat crime, and maintain law and order.
