“This is a test for the alliance because our members agree that they do not like the [direction] the country has taken,” Pamla said. “The fact that we are the most unequal country in the world is a sign that South Africa is slowly sinking in the abyss. A 46% real unemployment, stagnant wages and budget cuts have all exhausted the patience of workers.
Ramaphosa was a reformer who was aware this was not a favourable environment and who knew he would have to face these trials, that “there would a groundswell reaction against him”, he said.
