Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker says the referee made three errors after his side were defeated 3-1 by Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final.
Lehlohonolo Mojela opened the scoring for Stellies in the 12th minute but the Buccaneers hit back two minutes before half-time through Monnapule Saleng. With the match looking set for extra-time,Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi was fouled and Relebohile Mofokeng took a quick free kick, which Tshegofatso Mabasa finished off in the dying minutes. The goal was given despite the fact that the free kick was taken several metres to where Maswanganyi was fouled.
“Unfortunately you won’t get too much out of me this evening, I thought it was a good game of football, very competitive, up until it was a decision that was absolutely indescribable that a free-kick can be taken four, five minutes closer to goal, in around the box,” Barker said after the match.. “Unfortunately, on Monday night when it should be about the match and how the match was played, and good tactics of each team, the competitors of each team, it’s going to be about a refereeing decision. Which he’s made three errors in one decision,” Barker said after the Pirates defeat.Springbok and Stormers player Manie Libbok has taken time off to wed his bride Verna Arries in a picture-perfect ceremony in Mossel Bay.
