An FC Barcelona star is reportedly livid with the way manager Xavi Hernandez has treated him so far in the 2022/23 season. Read more ➡️
The Catalan giants underwent a major reshuffle of their squad in the most recent transfer window, with a host of players exiting the club after being deemed surplus to requirements. A Blaugrana star who was linked with an exit from the Camp Nou for months was Frenkie de Jong, with Manchester United signalling their intention to sign the player.
The Premier League club reportedly agreed a fee of €75 million for the Dutchman with Barca, but De Jong was said to have decided that if he did leave Spain, it would be for a club in the UEFA Champions League, and was also understood to want his deferred wages of €19.5 million paid to him before moving on.
Ultimately, the 25-year-old refused to give in to pressure from the Barca hierarchy and stayed at the Camp Nou., however, De Jong may be regretting that decision as he is"disgusted" by the limited first-team action he has received under manager Xavi since the window closed. The report adds that the midfielder was given the impression during the off-season that he would have an important role in the team this season, but he appears to have fallen down the midfield pecking order since, with just four starts in this campaign.
Xavi is said to prefer a midfield trio consisting of Sergio Busquets and teenagers Pedri and Gavi, and reportedly does not view De Jong as a long-term successor to the Spanish veteran. The former Ajax Amsterdam star is now believed to be unhappy at Barca, and could potentially be open to moving to Old Trafford in January.
