Banff National Parks fire danger has been elevated to extreme as hot, dry weather remains throughout the area.
Parks Canada issued the warning on Friday morning, asking visitors to follow safe practices while in the area. The park, through its social media channels, reminded guests fires are only allowed in provided metal fire rings and campfires must be attended to at all times. They must also be completely extinguished before visitors leave.“While naturally occurring wildfires can not be avoided, we can avoid human-caused fires,” read a post on Banff National Park’s Facebook page.
There are currently no wildfires burning within the park, Parks Canada’s website shows. Alberta Wildfire’s online dashboard shows 33 active wildfires burning throughout the province, including three that are listed as ‘out of control’. Meanwhile, the city of Calgary remains under a heat warning from Environment Canada as daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 28 C and 34 C, while overnight lows are expected to hover around 12 C and 17 C.
