Saskatchewan is expected to receive the equipment by the end of March.

“What we’ll see from this new technology is immediate results that are useful. Rather than waiting for a national system to provide outdated information or less timely information, we’ll be able to act on it much quicker,” said Saskatoon city police Chief Troy Cooper, who is first vice-president of the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police.

With the new equipment, what would have taken months could take days, Cooper said, noting that a single gun used in a crime may be kept and used in others. On Jan. 19, the SACP discussed purchasing and implementing the use of a BrassTrax Canadian Integrated Ballistics Identification Network station in this province, the report noted. The CIBIN is managed by the RCMP.

The IBIS is expected to be delivered to the Saskatchewan Firearms Program by March 31, according to the contact notice.
