Hugo Broos’ charges crashed out in the group stages of World Cup qualifying with Ghana eventually advancing to the playoffs where they overcame Nigeria to seal their place in Qatar.Bafana last qualified for the World Cup 20 years ago and then played at the 2010 tournament by virtue of being hosts.
Instead of being in Qatar with the best from around the world, Bafana have found themselves playing friendly matches against Mozambique and Angola’s local based players who are preparing for the CHAN finals next year. FIFA pays an allowance to every club with a player at the World Cup for every day that the player remains with his national team at the tournament through the Club Benefits Programme.
