This time, the ball didn’t quite hit receiver Zakhari Franklin in stride. This time, Franklin didn’t quite reach back and pluck it out of the air. This time, against No. 24 Troy in an 18-12 defeat, the No. 25 Roadrunners’ magic had less margin for error.And welcome to another offseason of the Roadrunners knowing all too well how much work they have to do.
So even though UTSA would have loved to win its first bowl game , would have loved to have beaten a ranked FBS opponent for the first time , and would have loved to pull off its first Top 25 finish , at least Traylor should have no problems commanding his team’s attention over the next eight months. They had no one else to blame for falling asleep and letting Troy pick up a first down on a fake punt, or for committing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that led to a field goal.
The good news for the Roadrunners is there is reason to believe they can. Not only is Harris coming back for a seventh season — probably with something to prove after a two-interception, one-fumble performance that ranks as one of his most disappointing days at UTSA — but Barnes looks like he’s just getting started.
