UTSA falls short of program’s first bowl victory, losing to Troy in Cure Bowl
UTSA safety Clifford Chattman, front left, fumbles the ball after he intercepted a pass intended for Troy tight end Deyunkrea Lewis during the first half of the Cure Bowl NCAA college football game, Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, in Orlando, Fla. Troy recovered the fumble. ORLANDO, Fla. — For all UTSA has accomplished in three years under coach Jeff Traylor, the search for the first bowl win in program history will have to wait at least one more season.
UTSA scored the only points of the first quarter on a safety, as Troy quarterback Gunnar Watson appeared to be looking toward the sideline when the ball was snapped and was unable to recover in time to prevent it from rolling through the back of the end zone. The Roadrunners’ defense limited the Trojans to just 66 yards in the opening half, snaring a pair of interceptions and matching a season high for a game with four sacks.
