I am gradually getting to meet our new neighbours here in Annapolis Royal. I want to start by saying that I am talking about those people who live next door or one door over. | SaltWire

Annapolis Valley Register columnist Anne Crossman is a former journalist and media manager. She now does volunteer work in her community of Annapolis Royal, Annapolis County. - ContributedANNAPOLIS ROYAL, N.S. — I am gradually getting to meet our new neighbours here in Annapolis Royal. I want to start by saying that I am talking about those people who live next door or one door over.

The variety is rather astounding when I stop to think about them all. There is a retired wine columnist/pharmacist, quite a few retired Indigenous broadcasters, a ranching family in Alberta, a highly regarded retired businessman in Europe, a girlfriend from my teens now in the U.S., a couple of inn-keeping couples, a bunch of retired broadcasters across this country, a retired radical newspaper editor, a couple of mayors and a few municipal councillors, and dear friends in Belgium.

Of course, I have very close friends who know most of my secrets and put up with my silly jokes or my occasional emotional outburst. They go under the heading of Very Special Neighbours.
