Rui Faria, Executive Board Member and Chief Commercial Officer of Angola Cables, has been appointed to the newly formed International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience.

Angola Cables ' Executive Board Member and Chief Commercial Officer, Rui Faria, has been appointed to the International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience. This new body, formed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC), and the United Nations Agency for Digital Technologies, aims to protect the vital infrastructure of subsea cables.

These cables carry over 99% of international data exchange, facilitating communication, finance, cloud services, and critical infrastructure operations. Due to their importance and vulnerability to threats like natural disasters and accidental damage, ensuring their resilience has become a global priority. Faria, who has over 30 years of experience in the subsea cable industry in Africa, highlighted the crucial role of the Advisory Body in safeguarding these intercontinental networks. He also mentioned Angola Cables' involvement in a research project with Durham University, investigating natural cable failures in the Congo River Canyon Crossing. Faria emphasized the need to identify and mitigate risks to submarine cable networks as more cables come into operation, making the work of this multi-stakeholder advisory body even more significant
