ANC gets another punch in the face as it loses Eastern Cape loyalty

To show the decline in ANC support since 1994, in 2014, the party recorded a massive 79.27%. This went down to 68.74% in 2019.Despite the Eastern Cape remaining the country’s poorest and least developed province after Limpopo, the governing ANC there continues to maintain its popularity among voters, although its support has declined.

In the latest national and provincial elections, the decline in support continued, with the party getting just 62% of the votes. In a telephonic interview, satisfied DA provincial leader Andrew Whitfield said his party was pleased with the election outcome, adding that it was going to be resilient. He added that there was “universal frustration” with the way the Electoral Commission of SA had handled the elections and that it could have done better.

He said that the MKP had now started a process of requesting printouts of some voting districts to confirm its fears of cheating during the capturing process.
