ANC, EFF Israeli embassy protests are 'antisemitic and hateful', says Jewish Board of Deputies
The EFF protested outside the Israeli embassy on Monday, with the party's leader, Julius Malema, likening Hamas to freedom fighters like the ANC during apartheid.
The protests called for the embassy's closure in response to the ongoing conflict between the Israel Defence Forces and Israel initiated its military campaign in Gaza after Hamas militants breached their border with the Palestinian territory on 7 October. According to Israeli officials, this led to the loss of over 1 400 lives, with most casualties being civilians.
“For days following the massacre, the ANC refused to offer any modicum of sympathy to the Israeli people or even to their own Jewish community traumatised by the loss of loved ones in Israel.”Kahn said it was “inconceivable to imagine that a minister of our constitutional democracy is in contact with a leader of a terrorist organisation”.
The organisation said the EFF leader prides himself in causing division among South Africans, “using his trademark hateful rhetoric”.Julius Malema has been remarkably quiet for the past two weeks but now chooses to associate freedom fighters with rape, murder of babies and kidnapping.
