Dave Feschuk: Raptors beat the Rockets, but still haven’t moved the needle ahead of NBA trade deadline
And as much as Siakam showed continuing signs of the toll of the grind — he needed 20 shots from the field to score his 23 points — the Raptors eventually found a way to bend a sloppily played game to their whim. It helped that
reeled off his second straight 30-plus-point game, finishing with 32 while going 5-for-11 from three-point range. But it wasn’t easy.
“He really looks good,” Nurse said of VanVleet. “He’s playing hard. He looks fast and athletic for him. And he’s shooting the ball with tremendous confidence, blasting to the rim with a lot of confidence, getting creative with a lot of finishes, getting to the free-throw line a little bit. And he’s been playing pretty good defence.”added 29 points for the Raptors, going 5-for-9 from deep.
With the Raptors on the outside of the post-season picture and desperately in need of a more rousing string of victories to dispel the feeling that considerable change is required in the lead-up to Thursday’s trade deadline, playing a string of .500 basketball, even away from home, isn’t anyone’s idea of moving the needle.
