We compared various South African MVNOs’ prices and validity periods for common data bundle sizes — 100MB, 500MB, 1GB, 5GB, and 10GB.
Afrihost ’s mobile virtual network operator Air Mobile is the most affordable in the country for large data bundles, while Capitec Connect is the cheapest for lower data allocations.
These companies don’t have a mobile spectrum licence but sell cellular services roaming on the infrastructure of a licensed mobile operator.MTN is another significant player in the MVNO space. It also builds and maintains Cell C’s cellular network infrastructure. Capitec Connect was the cheapest for lower data allocations, with 100MB and 500MB bundles costing R4.50 and R22.50, respectively.
The MVNO’s customers can get 1GB of data for R30, 5GB for R100, and 10GB for R150, all of which are valid for 60 days.Axxess Mobile customers have only this bundle and a 15GB option. Because its pricing was comparable to several of the other MVNOs’ 10GB bundles, we have included it in that category.
