October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In support of this, the Calvary Bikers Ministry and the Reiger Park Cancer Support Group hosted an action-packed CANSA Shavathon at Reiger Park Primary on October 14 to benefit cancer survivors.
Participants could show their support by donating a fee and having their hair shaved or sprayed. The donations of hair will help to make wigs for cancer patients. Attendees, particularly children, enjoyed the jumping castle, face painting and dancing to the pumping beats of the DJ.The support group’s founder and chairperson, Ulita Billings, described the event as a success, saying this had encouraged them to consider making this initiative an annual event.
Mark Hank, a Calvary Bikers Ministry member, a resident of Reiger Park, and a taxi owner, said they decided to partner with the support group and be part of the event to show solidarity with those affected by cancer.
