Vancouver Coastal Health restaurant inspectors see the darnedest things
“A cockroach was sighted running over head,” a Vancouver Coastal Health inspection report says of one inspection in December.
“A thick accumulation of rodent excrement and accumulated debris was noted on plumbing lines situated above the cooking equipment,” the Dec. 28 report, obtained by the CBC after a freedom of information submission, said.
The inspection came on the heels of a viral social media video showing a dead rat being pulled from a full bread bowl, and the popular Gastown eatery soon closed its doors.Coastal Health conducts more than 23,000 inspections of more than 7,000 restaurants annually, spokesman Matt Kieltyka said.
