The group allegedly orchestrated a scheme that involved stealing significant funds from Eskom by acquiring a pump twice, despite it having already been purchased back in 2015.

JOHANNESBURG - Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the 2018 procurement fraud case at the Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga.

Eskom has reportedly suffered hundreds of thousands of rand in losses due to the alleged fraudulent activity. South African Police Service spokesperson Nonkululeko Phokane said two of the suspects were captured on Friday while attempting to leave the country, while the remaining four were apprehended on Saturday morning.

“Two suspects, that include a Kusile Power Station procurement officer, were apprehended at a port of entry while attempting to leave the country on Friday, 14 March 2025. "In the early hours, an intelligence-led operation, activated by the dedicated MAJOC , led to the arrest of four additional suspects, including a former procurement manager and an end user at Kusile Power Station.”
