The 2024 Range Rover Velar Dynamic HSE PHEV reinforces the Velar 's position as a luxury SUV that caters to your every need. Although initially resembling a boat, its design has grown on me, particularly with the Narvik Black Exterior package. This vehicle is undoubtedly not budget-friendly. However, for those in this price bracket, there are certain non-negotiables, and the Velar excels in meeting those expectations. The base Range Rover Velar DYNAMIC HSE Ingenium 2.
0-liter 4-cylinder 404PS Turbocharged PHEV Petrol (Automatic) All-Wheel Drive costs R2,202,700. Our test vehicle included the Narvik Black exterior pack, Cloud/Ebony interior with Windsor Leather pack, Shadow Grey Ash Veneer trim, Technology Pack (featuring Heads-Up Display, Wade Sensing, Park Assist, and 3D Surround Camera), Black roof rails, optional fog lights, and a R41,800 Meridian surround sound system with 22 speakers for a 3D sound experience. These extras amounted to R105,807, bringing the total cost (including preparation fee) to R2,315,507. However, the wealth of features and technology justifies the price. The engineering behind propelling this 2,000+ kg behemoth to 100km/h in just over 5 seconds is astounding. The four-cylinder 2.0l petrol engine, combined with the electric motor, delivers 297kW and 640 Nm of torque, accompanied by a pleasing engine and exhaust note. While the extent of audio enhancement through the numerous speakers is unclear, the 1,997 cc petrol engine never feels strained. The Velar also demonstrates exceptional stability and balance, whether cruising at highway speeds or navigating winding mountain passes. It's a Range Rover, after all
