Federal investigation nabs trio of suspects in Rochester-area mail theft spreeThree suspects are now charged in connection to a string of mail thefts across the Rochester area.
The investigation comes from a complaint filed against those suspects — Legend Davis and Nathan Arnold of Rochester, and Blake Crayon of Ohio — who allegedly used a US Postal Service key to steal mail from several collection boxes in Greece, Rochester and Henrietta. Postal inspection workers allegedly later observed three suspects take letters out of blue boxes on Jefferson Road in Henrietta, before arresting the group early Tuesday morning.The arrest is the latest of a nationwide theft string, one that Lynne Steifler has personally experienced.After Steifler mailed out her bills in May, she said she was told none of her payments had gone through. She said her bank then informed her in July that someone tried cashing one of her checks in Buffalo.
Steifler said Monroe County deputies contacted her for a statement, but were unable to act because the alleged check-cashing fraud took place in Erie County. She has yet to hear back from the U.S. Postal Inspection Office after filing a complaint. She said she's needed to change how she handles her mail and monthly payments.
