Popular singer Ed Sheeran's unplanned street concert in India was interrupted by local police. He later clarified that permission had been granted for the performance.

Ed Sheeran 's impromptu street performance in India was abruptly halted by local police. The 33-year-old singer-songwriter, while touring the country, decided to treat unsuspecting passersby to a free concert on the streets. However, his rendition of his 2017 hit track, 'Shape of You', was cut short when authorities intervened.

Sheeran later took to Instagram to clarify that permission had been granted for the street performance, stating, 'We had permission to busk btw, hence us playing in that exact spot was planned out before, it wasn’t just us randomly turning up.' This incident occurred during Sheeran's +-=÷x tour in India, where he has already performed two of his four scheduled shows. Sheeran has been enjoying his time in India, experiencing the local culture and even trying his hand at playing the Sitar, India's traditional musical instrument. He received lessons from Indian artist Megha Rawoot and showcased his skills on Instagram. The singer also interacted with choir singers from Chennai, joining them in a rendition of one of his songs. His tour coincides with the English cricket team's visit to India for a series of One Day Internationals against the Indian team. The demand for live music concerts in India has been steadily increasing, and Sheeran's tour is a testament to this trend. His visit follows successful performances by Dua Lipa in Mumbai and Coldplay's multi-city tour, further solidifying India's position as a thriving market for live music. After concluding his India leg, Sheeran will embark on a tour of China, where he will perform six shows until early March.
