The Springboks have named their team to take on Scotland in their 2023 Rugby World Cup opener.

The Springboks have named their team to take on Scotland and launch their title defence in their 2023 Rugby World Cup opener in Marseille on Sunday.

The major talking points are that Damian Willemse is preferred at fullback to Willie le Roux while Jesse Kriel cracks the nod ahead of Canan Moodie at outside centre. There had been a lot of talk around the 20-year-old Moodie being backed at No 13, but he was not considered for selection due to a hamstring niggle.

Jasper Wiese, meanwhile, will start at No 8 while veteran Duane Vermeulen is among the substitutes in a 6/2, forwards/backs split.

Substitutes: 16 Bongi Mbonambi, 17 Ox Nche. 18 Trevor Nyakane, 19 RG Snyman, 20 Marco van Staden, 21 Duane Vermeulen, 22 Grant Williams, 23 Willie le RouxIn times of uncertainty you need journalism you can trust.
