Nine weeks after obtaining a summary judgment against former president Zuma, who defaulted on an R8.5-million bond given to him by VBS bank under questionable circumstances, the bank's liquidator is yet to set in motion processes to seize any of his assets

Former president Jacob Zuma's lawyers are in discussion with the liquidator of VBS Mutual Bank, Anoosh Rooplal, over possible payment of the outstanding R6.5 million bond Zuma was granted by the bank to repay costs for non-security upgrades to his Nkandla homestead.

Rooplal confirmed the discussions to News24 when approached to confirm whether he had instructed the sheriff of the court to go to Nkandla and take an inventory of any assets that may be at the property. At the end of August, Rooplal, in his capacity as liquidator, obtained a summary judgment against Zuma for the full outstanding amount owed on the bond. Zuma was ordered to pay R6.5 million and 10.25% interest calculated annually from August 2019, which means he must come up with roughly R8 million to prevent the sheriff from seizing his assets.Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
