Despite his initial circumstances, Akira Tendou is a character who wants to live. That's his driving characteristic, and when faced with an awful situation he resolves to make every day count. In fact, at the end ofepisode two we see him make the titular bucket list in order to make the most of whatever time he has left.He lives in a world ostensibly worse than his previous one, but finds a way to see the silver lining, and so he escapes the truck.
