Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa has resigned amid corruption charges during his time as Deputy State Security Minister.

This was revealed following his appearance at Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on 5 June in connection with allegations that he received R1.6 million in bribes during his time as State Security Deputy Minister.

“This comes as Mr Kodwa challenges the charges against him, which he strongly denies,” read the government statement. Steven Powell, who is the Managing Director of ENSafrica’s forensics department, mentioned that Kodwa obtained R2 million in payments and luxury accommodations from EOH during the process of bidding for government tenders.

These payments include a R1 million “loan” that Kodwa received from Mackay, which he used to buy a Jeep, but never paid the money back.
