To paraphrase Rick Pitino, it doesn't look like Zion Williamson is walking through that door anytime soon. But in his absence, the Pelicans have started piecing together a squad that could become a real threat again, writes WillGuillory.

After reinjuring his hamstring in February, the hope was that Williamson could rejoin the team at the end of the regular season as it prepared for a potential postseason return.that didn’t provide much detail about the face of the franchise’s status on Thursday, Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin spoke to reporters Friday to give more context on where Williamson is in his rehab process.

“He’s gotten to three-on-three on-court and just didn’t feel the next day or the next two days that the next progression made sense. He hasn’t been ‘reinjured.’ He’s never even reported soreness. It’s more of like a hesitancy,” Griffin said. “I think we went through this before with Based on those comments, it doesn’t sound like Williamson will be back anytime soon to recreate the magic the team discovered with him in December. But New Orleans feels much more confident after going through some rough times during his absence. Without Zion, the Pels have started piecing together a squad that could become a real threat again.

“We want Z back, for sure. But we can’t put a lot of time and focus into ‘What ifs.’ Right now, this is reality. That’s what we have to look at,” Pels coach Willie Green said. “Over the last 10 games, we’ve been playing extremely well. We have to continue to do that. When that time comes when Z can step on the floor and go, then it’s, ‘Let’s go.’”Williamson’s potential absence in the most important games of the year is a bitter way for this roller-coaster season to end.

The main reason the Pels have been able to breathe new life into their season is the presence of their other franchise pillar: Ingram.over the past few weeks. He’s been playing at such a high level that the Pels see him as a worthy foe against any of the superstars they may have to go through in the Play-In Tournament or the first round.

While Ingram admits he’s tried to give Williamson space while he’s gone through the rehab process in recent weeks, both understand the importance of them working together as the leaders of the franchise. Ingram has pushed himself to focus on the task at hand and pick up the team that’s available to him now.

Barriers to learning for sustainability: a teacher perspective - Sustainable Earth ReviewsBarriers to learning for sustainability: a teacher perspective - Sustainable Earth ReviewsWe collectively face a constellation of complex and interconnected problems that threaten human and planetary wellbeing now and into the future. Holistic, multidisciplinary education that integrates the social, environmental and economic pillars of sustainability and enables learners to contribute to more sustainable societies are widely expected to play a crucial role in addressing these challenges. However, transformative learning to foster more sustainable ways of living cannot take place without teachers, who serve as role models for students and are widely acknowledged as key agents of social change. Teachers are called upon to translate international policies for sustainability education into classroom practice, but research shows that many practicing educators feel unprepared to help learners develop the competencies needed to forge more sustainable paths forward. In this commentary, the reflections of a British science teacher provide a first-hand account of the disconnect between international policy on sustainability education and the lived experiences of a classroom teacher and serve as a launch point for comparison with other teachers’ perspectives on teaching and learning for sustainability as documented in the literature. Despite significant context-based differences in how sustainability education is implemented, teachers’ voices from across the world reveal several common obstacles to multidisciplinary, learner-centered education for sustainability, including disciplinary silos, a focus on high stakes assessments, and inadequate professional learning opportunities for future and practicing educators. These hurdles persist despite repeated calls from policy-makers and researchers to better prepare and support educators as the facilitators of learning for sustainability, underscoring the need to more closely connect top-down Education for Sustainable Development policy to teachers’ needs and classroom experiences.
