Zimbabwe's Tendai Biti urges SA to vigorously defend its democracy
A small gathering of those who care deeply about Africa met at a book launch in Parktown, just north of Joburg, on Wednesday, to agree that democracy was the best system of rule for the continent.
Perhaps two of the people who should know best about the ravages of repressive systems in modern-day Africa were Zambia opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema and Biti. Hichilema, released last April after 100 days in custody, was arrested and charged with treason for daring not to make way for the motorcade of President Edgar Lungu.
