Thokozani Khupe is running for office with the Citizens Coalition for Change in the hopes that this move could boost opposition support.
She is running for a women’s quota proportional representation seat under the CCC party led by Nelson Chamisa. Chamisa and Khupe became adversaries following the death of the main opposition party’s founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai in early 2018. Opposition Leader Chamisa Readies Zimbabwe Election CampaignCitizens Coalition for Change (CCC) President Nelson Chamisa has said Zimbabwe's August 23 elections are a matter of life or death, highlighting the country's poor economic state as an example, New Zimbabwe reports. Chamisa said this at a packed Mkoba Stadium in Gweru where his party officially launched its 2023 campaign dubbed 'For Everyone.' It was the second attempt for the CCC after a plan to launch their programme in Bindura was thwarted by police. "This campaign is not about political parties, this campaign is about the choice between life and death," said Chamisa. Chamisa's election plan comes little more than a year after several suspects were nabbed for politcally motivated violence during a rally attended by the CCC leader in Kwekwe. One opposition activist was killed and 17 others were injured during the event.
