The 25-year-old actress broke another Emmy record this morning following the announcement of this year's nominations. The actress was nominated again for her leading role in HBO's gritty teen series,for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, making her the youngest two-time Emmy nominee ever, perShe also is officially the first Black woman and second Black person overall to be nominated for acting and songwriting awards during the same awards show year.
The actress originally made history at the 2020 Emmys when she became the youngest person to take home an award, also for her role as Rue in. For her virtual acceptance speech, surrounded by family and close friends, she dedicated her win to the activists fighting for racial and social justice across America at the time, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd.
"I know this is a really weird time to be celebrating but I do just want to say that there is hope in the young people. I know our TV show doesn't always seem like a great example of that, but there is hope in the young people,"."I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, I see you, I admire you, I thank you and thank you so, so much."
