Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has offered to exchange captured North Korean soldiers for Ukrainians detained in Russia. This comes after Ukraine announced the capture of the first North Korean soldiers alive, marking the first such incident since their deployment to the war in the Kursk region. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is prepared to return the captured soldiers to North Korea if Kim Jong Un can facilitate their exchange. He also mentioned alternative options for those North Korean soldiers who choose not to return.
"In addition to the first captured soldiers from North Korea , there will undoubtedly be more. It's only a matter of time before our troops manage to capture others," Zelenskyy said on the social media platform X.in Russia's Kursk region, the first time Ukraine has announced the capture of North Korea n soldiers alive since their entry into the war last autumn.
