Zac Efron explains the challenges of playing real-life person in The Greatest Beer Run Ever
Peter Farrelly's follow-up to the Oscar-winningsees Efron play John 'Chickie' Donohue who, during the Vietnam War, decided to travel to Vietnam to bring his friends a can of American beer to support them. Yes, this really did happen and yes, Chickie survived to tell the wild tale.that he never met the man in question until filming was well under way.
Even though Farrelly met Chickie before making the movie, it made sense to him for Efron not to meet him as he didn't want it to be an imitation of the person."I wanted him to become who he thought Chickie would be and in the process, he did become Chickie," he added. "That's the overarching thing and there's some things that might occur in the process of that, like not being slapstick, really paying attention to the material and it does make you think. You put some extra effort into it."
