In the lead up to the Formula One Grand Prix races which will begin on Friday in Singapore, the F1 in Schools World Finals saw a record number of young participants aged 11 to 19.
Terry Lim, managing director of Mastereign Group - a training company - and in-country-coordinator for F1 in Schools Singapore, told The Straits Times that this competition was designed as an interdisciplinary challenge. Students who have taken part in F1 in Schools over the years have gone on to secure roles at several F1 teams, including current world champions Red Bull and Mercedes.
“The first time that I really wanted to be in F1 was when I was in the paddock in Texas. I met Nico Rosberg, and I just thought I would do anything to make my life like this every single day,” said Ms Martin, referring to the former F1 champion. Athena Racing from Greece, the only all-female team to take part in the competition, told ST that they joined the competition to promote women in STEM - science, technology, engineering and mathematic.
