New regulations will increase the maximum amount you can sue for in the Small Claims Court by a third, to R20,000.The Small Claims Court is a remarkably cheap, lawyer-free way to settle commercial issues – as long as the other party has the cash.
Justice minister Michael Masutha gazetted the new limit this week, updating the crucial ceiling that keeps the Small Claims Court small for the first time since 2014.
